After his cameo as The Cavillrine in Deadpool & Wolverine, it is hard not to envision Wolverine as Henry Cavill's best The Witcher replacement. However, a closer look at his acting career suggests he might be a better fit for another franchise after his departure from The Witcher. Although Henry Cavill has played myriad roles in his long acting career, he is either associated with Superman because of his portrayal of the Man of Steel in the DCEU or with The Witcher because of how perfectly he embodied the character in Netflix's live-action adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's works.

Some may even associate him with his roles in Enola Holmes, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and even The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. However, presently, Henry Cavill seems to be in somewhat of a liminal space where his name is being attached to several scalable franchises like Warhammer and James Bond, but it is unknown what will eventually be the perfect The Witcher replacement for him. Only time will tell what the future holds for the actor, but I believe he would be a great fit for a Netflix series.

His first Guy Ritchie movie was The Man from U.N.C.L.E, which failed to leave its mark at the box office but proved his ability to play a suave and charismatic lead. Cavill's second project under Guy Ritchie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, earned a positive reception from critics, further cementing his strong working relationship with the English director.

According to reports, Cavill is also a part of the third Guy Ritchie movie, In the Grey, in which he will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. Given his proven acting chops and long-standing relationship with the director, Henry Cavill could bring a compelling edge to The Gentlemen's season 2 by joining its roster. While he perfectly portrayed Napoleon Solo's dry humor and love-hate dynamic with Armie Hammer's Illya Kuryakin in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., his embodiment of Gus March-Phillipps in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare could not have any better. Unfortunately, despite being entertaining and featuring great performances, both films failed at the box office.

While The Man from U.N.C.L.E. only grossed $110 million at the global box office against a budget of $75 million, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare could not even earn more than its budget of $60 million after raking in only $27.3 million. In The Grey has the potential to finally give Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill a collaborative hit. However, I would not bet on the film's success considering how the duo's previous movie team-ups have not performed very well. When it comes to The Gentlemen season 2, however, Cavill's history of delivering successful shows on Netflix proves his casting could spell redemption for him and Guy Ritchie.

Playing A Major Superhero Role Again Could Be Detrimental For His Acting Career

People are widely calling for Henry Cavill to play Wolverine for the MCU after his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, and I can completely understand why. His brief appearance in the film is enough to convince anyone that he could be Hugh Jackman's perfect replacement. However, now that he has already portrayed Wolverine in one film, his return as the character in a bigger capacity would lack the element of surprise and novelty that usually comes with the introduction of a new actor in a role. Even from a career standpoint, Cavill would be better off playing non-superhero roles.

He had an incredible tenure as Superman in Zack Snyder's DCEU movies, but he could risk being typecast if he took on another high-profile superhero role. In the long run, this could limit his opportunities, preventing him from landing more diverse roles. By joining The Gentlemen, on the other hand, Henry Cavill would have the perfect opportunity to find a franchise replacement for The Witcher, diversify his acting portfolio, and even play to his strengths under Guy Ritchie's direction.
